THE MISS UNIVERSE 2017 REVIEW AND A POST DEDICATED TO BUNGA
I don't know where to start really... it's probably gonna end up like some long ass rant regarding the recently concluded miss universe 2017. I for one was not really following this year's miss universe because I have been swamped under a shitload of deadlines myself (meh)
But in the midst of that hecticness (is that even a word? - apparently my laptop auto-correct doesn't think so) I managed to squeeze in some time to watch the miss universe pageant live. I was so happy, if only you could ask my friends who were watching right next to me. I was very very excited to see bunga jelitha ibrani, a stunner who is representing my beloved indonesia in this year's pageant. I mean check out this beauty walking the stage during the introduction of miss universe!
so as we all know, during the top 16 the MUO has a new format in which the girls are separated into stupid continents or regions whatever and each region gets 4 slots each and the rest is wildcard to complete the top 16. and for those of you who followed miss universe, indonesia failed to place in the top 16 and you could see from the many screencaps I found on my instagram, bunga looked really disappointed that she almost cried on stage.
so to give a back story why she was really disappointed is because there are a few factors:
1. indonesia have been placing for 4 years in a row in the top 16, so she had hopes to at least make it to the top 16 and continue the streak.
2. people (indonesians) have really high hopes to see bunga finally ending the invisible wall that always made indonesia fails to advance to the top 10.
3. there was a scandal in which they have that harvey moment in indonesia as well this year. she was the original winner but she was announced as the 2nd runner up, and bc of that people have speculated and accused both the organization and bunga that the competition was rigged and she did not deserve to be the winner - which to me is very sad and factless.
4. she's a high school graduate which is something that bunga faces from a lot of people.
okay first of all, MUO, this was a stupid idea. let me tell you why. girls should place because they deserve the damn spot, not because you worry about a stupid quota thingy. let me tell you right now, bunga, you are beautiful just the way you are and my heart broke with you when indonesia was not called to the top 16. - most of the girls from europe really seemed out of place.
and of course right after the swimusit competition, most of the girls from europe were axed in the top 10, which proves my point bc they just don't have the aura of miss universe and to make them place in the top 16 just to be politically correct is totally stupid. they'll get cut anyway.
and don't even get me started on china.....................................
the absolute best in the swimsuit round is hands down: COLOMBIA. her body was to die for!!! and I really loved the way she worked with the camera! I literally died when she flipped her hair! so fabulous!
I did love the way thailand chose to wear one piece but I didn't really like the way she walked...
note: thank god they're bringing banck the old format with each girl walking individually instead of a group of 3. that was probably the most stupid idea (besides the region thingy). but the time was too fast? they didn'teven have time to pose at the end of the runway. my suggestion is to definitely cut down the introduction of the girls from each continent and have steve harvey speaking in the middle. it was truly a waste of time!
the top 10, I thought was pretty strong with the exception of spain and brazil. I didn't really feel any vibe from those two
EVENING GOWN
Venezuela - LOVE her gown. it's very different from the normal venezuelan gowns we've seen before, bc usually they're so damn extra, but this simple white gown was very impacting! and oh I love those ponytails. I just wasn't feeling her lipstick color but other than that perfecto!
USA - I did not like the gown at all... I did not like the top part of the gown
Philippines - too pageant betty, I feel like she's already been giving us too much of those high slit gowns (bbp pilipinas, prelims and then finals) and it's too similar to mexico from last year.
Canada - ok I don't know what was up that night but her neck looked abnormally long? but she's a great speaker, so that really saved her. but in terms of the gown NEXT.
South Africa - ok this gown was pretty meh to me, I feel like she could've picked a better gown bc she's so stunning! I didn't get the pointy thingy on her shoulder and the dress felt was too short... but MILESSSSSSSSSSSS better than the one she wore on prelims.
Spain - I didn't like the hair at all..... she was pretty forgettable
Brazil - this gown is so weird for me.. so many people said it was so beautiful but I literally saw no beauty in that dress :( color was okay for her skin tone but the problem was in the details. first of all the circles that were on the dress looked like it was stuck there last minute and what is up with the slit in the middle of her waist???
Colombia - the gown was just too plain. we've seen that kinda dress over and over
Thailand - although it didn't look bad, but it was like a combination of miss thailand 2015 and 2016's gown combined into one. it was too similar :(
Jamaica - the gown was very similar to the one she wore in her nationals, but I liked the national's one better, it was just architectural, the one she wore to miss universe had too much flower details.
GREATEST IN EVENING GOWN: Venezuela
top 5 was pretty god with the exception of the exclusion of the philippines. I thought she was stronger than jamaica in both rounds. I don't hate jamaica but I just felt that philippines was stronger!
south africa's answer was too fast, she needed to elaborate more
venezuela - lover her answer
thailand - bye bye crown ageing population? well to be fair it was pretty hard
jamaica - loling at her literally peeking to the card on steve harvey..........
colombia - definitely a great speaker!
top 3 was okay but still shocked with jamaica.... I thought venezuela did better.
but the final word in top 3 all of them did great.
overall I thought colombia should've won, but south africa was so gorgeous. congratulations to SOUTH AFRICA!!!!
